We stopped for the evening in a town called Freemantle, it is a bohemian town, with lots of Victorian buildings, from the time it was a major port for Perth. Marie headed into the quirky shops to get her supplies of Ugg boots which were half the price they are in the UK, and I got a load of flip flops which have a cool gadget attached to them in the form of a bottle opener in the sole! Even with the price of shipping them back to the UK they were a real bargain!
The next morning we boarded our boat for our Wild Dolphin encounter, with the Pacific Bottlenose dolphins! Unfortunately for us there was only one boat heading out, and they had managed to cram so many people into the tour! There were 50 people!!! The boat was mayhem
The tour was very informative, they told us how the dolphins are spotted by the large amounts of sea birds which follow them as they circle around schools of fish. Once they have eaten they have a bit of time to play, and this is when they will interact with humans. Also as they were completely wild dolphins, we weren't to touch them because they have a protective film, which can become fungal if touched by us. They communicate with each other using echo location and sonar, and that is also how they find prey. They have the amazing ability to search out prey, and one can send that information of the location of the prey to their friends a bit like a text message!!! With us humans, they are able to see through our flesh into our hearts, and monitor our heartbeat, to know if we are nervous or not. They also know if you are pregnant, and will try and help people who have a disability!! The dolphins are also very social animals, and very kinky too!! They have sex as frequently as we shake hands! Luckily none came close enough to me or Marie to get too frisky!!
The following day we were really excited to meet up with Marie's mate Emma, her son James and Richard for a BBQ. They were on holiday here in Perth visiting her brother and her mum who was also living out there for 6 months house sitting for people. We had a great time relaxing at their pool and after lunch we went out to the park outside for a game of footy. We were joined by a bunch of lads who wanted a game! I got a bit nervous as most of them had footy tops on, sporting the likes of Saudi!!! Needless to say we whipped them! Even with me in the team! (this was the most exercise I had done in 3 months!!)
It was also a very special and significant day for us as it was exactly half way around our trip! It is mad to think we have been travelling for 3 months! Loads of memories and moments, and to think we have another 3 months of this! It made us really appreciate the fact that we had extended our trip from 3 months to 6 months!
That evening we met up with John again. We said good bye to him on our final morning, and it was really nice to have meet friends for a few days, something you really miss when you are travelling for a long time.
