I made a stop in Aracaju mainly because the CouchSurfers were so so nice!
Both Monique and Rodrigo had been emailing me for a few weeks, convincing me to visit their part of Brazil. So, I head over there and met 2 of the nicest CSers I ever met!
Rodrigo picked me up from the bus terminal and brought me to his grandmothers house where I could have lunch, and after I met Andrew, an American that had been cycling around South America already for a year.
We both moved to Monique's place and I stayed a few nights. Monique also loves biking so she called around to find a bike for all of us, and we all plus some more friends did a nightly 3-hour bike trip in Aracaju. Great!! Biking along the beaches at night. Unique experience!!

Some people advised me to check out Xingo Canyon. All pictures with this blog entry are from there, sadly I don't have any of Monique and the others, or Aracaju, because my camera started acting weird...

Xingo Canyon was 4 hours drive from Aracaju, and I joined an organized daytrip to get there. With hands and feet I succeeded in communicating a bit with the other tourpeople, we were with 6, and I was the only gringo. the canyon is filled by a river so we did a boattrip, with at least 50 other Brazilians and no foreigners. I was definitely off the gringo-track and on the Brazilian-tourist-track!!

It was really beautiful but too far of a drive for the time spent there.

During these days I struggled a lot with my leg. Head and coldpads made it better, but I couldn't walk very long.

So it was time to leave, I loved the people around me, and my leg could use some rest, but my next stop would be Salvador, a city everyone speaks highly of. And on Monday I had a flight scheduled so if I wanted to see a bit of this city, I had to leave, so I did. But I will always love Monique and Rodrigo and never forget their hospitality and our bikeride!
