Where I stayed

Mari off to Qigong with the Italian which again, pretty vigorous. Such a beautiful morning again, see video. Lighter breakfast then pack and last hour at the pool before checking out at twelve. Now waiting for the hire car and we will be off to who know where? Maybe mr lobin does.

Car arrived a bit later ok Jazz so we set off to look at the dam, and then, on our way along local roads for awhile ,only to arrive back at our local village again! Ho hum.
Then off through busy roads from Chiang Mai heading north to Chiang Dao where the elephant park is . Stopped there to check it out but starts early a.m. So that,s the plan for tomorrow. Wifi and tethering did not co operate in the car so stopped at rooms available outside Chiang Dao and have taken a clean but very basic room 400 bht £8 for two. Then went exploring and found the Chiang Doa nests which look lovely, up the mountain near the caves and monastery. Rooms are booked but we are now waiting at Nest 2 for what is looking like a lovely BBQ meal at 6:30. We are a bit early so R. Is changing in the car and life feels better already. It's all you can eat for £7 and I think the detox will go with a bottle of red.
This is stunning, in the shadow of a house mountain and pretty cool temperature but the biters are about so it's time for the heavy duty Jungle fever spray. Chiang beer, 640ml for £1.30 and an alcohol reading of 6.5%. Now starting to become dark at 6pm. Rather like the Highlands of Scotland but with heat and mossies instead of midges.

Fabulous eat all you like BBQ at Nest 2. Real family atmosphere and good food. Went back to our very very basic, cold horrible room , but we did it. Not very good nights sleep but left early for elephants at Taeng Dao but they only had bath at 10:30. R. And I decided not to ride for an hour and a half so chilled at the restaurant overlooking the river with rafts waiting to Be ridden. We were very brave on the rickety rackety bridge over the river. Fed Ellie's bananas and loved them bathing, not so sure about the show of them working And painting but they are working elephants. Had good brunch of green curry and stir fry in the sun. Drove to bookin at Nest 1. Only family room available so we have five beds tonight and it is lovely. Room not ready but we left our cases and set off to the caves. 40 baht each for electricity, then, once you are in it's 100bht for guide and then the same for a paraffin lamp. Anyway quite impressive, hot, full of Buddas and beautiful gardens around. Done the caves. R. Needed a cup of tea, I bought face cream and pills from old lady so will look younger soon.
Off to hot springs where R. Negotiated a price of 20 baht each for Thai locals as opposed to 100 baht for foreigners. We both sat in the hot mineral spring water for the suggested period of 15 minutes and then went for a cold shower. We were then told that we should repeat the process three times for full effect. We didn't!
Quick change then off to the waterfall where they wouldn't fall for the Thai local price trick again but did decide not to charge for the car park, a saving of 30 baht. Result! The waterfall was quite impressive but as it was getting late we didn't stay long and returned via a local market where we bought fruit and had a walk along a long market street where we were ogled as being the only foreigners there. Not a great tourist area for foreigners here.
Back for dinner where M got the serious giggles about me having a slow cooked, medium spicy, buffalo curry and organic rice. Great food although rather too spicy but it was cooled down seated by a lovely log fire in the garden with hot chocolate and rum. Just like home!
R. Enjoyed the bufallo curry while steam came out of his ears, and M. Developed Angelina Jolie lips as well as the giglgles. End of a lovely , busy day. Time is going very quickly and it is quite lovely up here . The scenery is beautiful around the imposing mountain and we are seeing a lot of local life.
