Hire car arrived at 10:30, not 10:00, not anew car as paid extra for, filthy old/new 4 wheel drive Toyota, owner with attitude that we could cancel if we wished. What we wish is out of here so we set off in search of our new home, the other side of the Island, away from Full Moon Party tat. We dropped him off at his office where he retained R's passport for the return of the vehicle.
Off through jungle on some unmade roads, past a few elephants to a bay called Nat Pan Yai where we first called in to some beach resorts that were slightly basic before driving in to the Panviman resort, that we hadn't come across before. Very swish with a pool room available - private pool that is at not a great deal more than we are currently paying at the Best Western. Took details and said we would ring back. Then up an awful road to a much more expensive hotel that had a room for about £220 per night but the receptionist said it would be cheaper to book it through Agoda! We think that most of the customers from here would arrive by boat as they would not accept the road journey.
Returned to the beach and went to the Anatara and Buri Rasa resorts, both of which were direct onto the beach. Took details and went to have lunch and a think. Tried Agoda for the Panviman which was 1000 baht cheaper than quoted by the hotel but the booking pages refused to work.
After a lovely pizza and salad returned to the Panviman where we discovered that the Agoda price did not include Service or Vat so the prices were identical. Finally booked for the next four nights.
Drove back down to the coast road and arrived after making two false turns, went to the ferry port to have a look, called into Tesco Lotus and bought some biscuits and a bikini. Just like Hatfield! Then called into the car rental man to arrange for him to collect the car from the new resort but he was still as awkward as before and refused to co-operate so we shall have to speak to Jayne in the morning as she made the booking and said that it could be done.
Had a drink at a new hotel called Coast, all very modern and zen. It had only been opened on Dec 23rd but was closing after tonight for the official opening by the Governor but would be open again in the next three days. Worth thinking about as the price was reasonable.
R did a bit of invoicing on the computer and advised the hotel we should be checking out in the morning and then went out for a meal in Haad Rin as we had the car.
Don't think we will be coming back here again. It's not very nice to say the least. Must be better on a lot of drugs.
