Johnny, my friend.....with one free day left before the grand tour starts... I decided to skip the city life of temples and museums and spend the day in a thatched roof bungalow toe structure along the river, 1hr drive from Phnom Penh. Who better to drive me there than my new found friend/tuk tuk driver... Johhny.

Let me tell you about Johnny. Yesterday Johnny drove me to the Russian market (crap suks compared to Marrakech) so I was going to pay Johnny for the lift but he said he would wait for me to finish and then he would take me back. You can just imagine... Hundreds of people at the market- do u think I found Johnny again? No way! I felt terrible! Poor Johnny was waiting for me for 4 hours!!!! Meanwhile I was walking the streets of Phnom Penh... Slowly but surely working on the blisters I now have on my feet.

Anyway- after the of sightseeing I go back to my hotel and who is waiting there for me? Good old Johhnycakes!

So I tell Johnny to meet me at 10am the next morning to take me to Kien Siay. (Pronounced Kien Svai) so off we go, Johnny and I... And the tuk tuk of course! Now let me just tell you. tuk Tuk's were not(in my opinion) designed for offroading or national motorways. ( the trip to Kien Sviay had plenty of both) Now when I tell you mayhem existed on the roads... I am not joking. There are traffic lights with timers but everyone ignores the timers And is treated as a 4 way stop( kind of- but no one ever stops) its a free for all! ( imagine u r on the N2 in Cape Town- M25 in London and you just decide u want to change direction so you do a U turn and drive in the opposite direction on the other side of the road? ( you should at this point be imagining on coming traffic)

So- hour and a bit later And we arrive! Me and Johnnycakes! As soon as we arrived I had a smile on my face. ( not quite sure if it was the scenery or the fact that we arrived alive) This place was like utter bliss. It's the weekend getaway place for a lot of people living in Pnom Penh. There are about 50 different huts on stilts buolt in a river..each kind of private.... And has a market nearby where they sell all sorts- roast chicken, roast snake, roast frogs- wait for it- roast tortoises!!! A true delicacy apparently!

I decided to skip the tortoise and just eat the frog instead! See pic below:) so i spent a total of 3 hours just chillinng in the hut with Johnny... Shame man... He told me his life story... His wife left him and he has 2 kids and his skank wife took out a loan from the bank before she left now he's left to pay it. And then I don't even pay him from day before.

So, off Johnny and I go to the market to buy our food and Johnny decides he wants some beer! So i say sure... Get us a beer each... Johnny decided he's parking off for the day and proceeds to buy 6beers! ( well- at $1 per beer- u can't Really blame the guy)

After we eat the frogs( see pic below, and the chicken and the frog eggs! And some other rice stuff- which all was very yummy... Johnny downed 3 beers- at which point I was thinking... Surely this is not ok for a tuk tuk driver to be drinking on the job?

Surely he's not planning to drink them all? ..... He drank 3 of them!

Anyway- I ordered more food and loads of rice and he of course ate it all( shame- he is really poor) my plan was to feed him loads to sober him up. Please see pic of Johnny below...
In case u r not sure which pic I'm referring to- it's the one of the little Cambodian man passed out.....

All in all a great relaxing day after the first day of walking round the city yesterday.

Anyway.. Alls good got back safe n sound and have met the tour group tonight! Safe to say... I will be getting NO ACTION on this trip... Some old dude he keeps asking me if know how to make biltong? And then asked me to guese where in SA he has been. After an hour of harassment... He says... noordhoek! Like I was EVER going to guess that!

Other than that- people r nice ... Killing fields is on the agenda tomorrow. Apparently a depressing day. Awesome. Can't wait!

Still hot... Still sweating like a pig!

Here's a question for u guys.... What is the most amount of people you have seen on one motorbike? Until yesterday.... I would have said 3. Well, after today, that number just went to 5! 2 adults and 3 kids! It's crazy! And they all driving o the wrong side of the road! Hectic!

I imagine Johnny is thinking all his Christmases have come at once!! I can just see you having to drive the tuk tuk home after one of these excursions as clearly your booze tolerance is better than his :)

All looks fab so far Chara (aside from the tortoise grub - gross man! LOL)

Stay safe x
