Where I stayed
Welmoed's House
The main reason I had decided to come to Holland in March was to celebrate my Tante Welmoed's 80th birthday with her. My cousin Judith did pretty much all of the planning and it was a fabulous party!
The guest began arriving at about noon and included friends of Welmoed's as well as lots of family. Of course Welmoed's kids were there: my cousins Marc, Taco & Judith were there along with Judith's husband Taeke and son Wouter. My sister Henriette came from Hoorn and my sister Jaaike and her husband Horst came from Germany. There was even family from my mother's side - my cousin Pepi and his wife Bogusia from England.
Jaaike had brought a case of Sekt which is a German sparkling wine. She said the tradition in Germany is to greet each guest with a glass of Sekt which was a task I happily undertook. There was plenty of beer and other beverages as well as an abundance of yummy food.
I don't know how many people came in and out of the apartment between noon and six but it must have been at least 60 or 70. By 6 o'clock most of the guests had left and the party turned into a family affair. The group slowly dwindled until by midnight it was me, Welmoed, Pepi, Bogusia and Marc endlessly telling jokes. Wow! 80 years old and she partied for 12 hours!
