You've heard this before - I have sworn off overnight bus trips. Trouble is, sometimes it's the only bus that's available! Damn! I looked into flying from Chiclayo to Guayaquil but it was $550! No way. So...bought my ticket for the 8 pm bus. Chiclayo has a number of bus lines and stations and many quality buses. none of them go to Ecuador however. I ended up on a dirty, cramped bus with an unbelievable pile of cargo and luggage on top...Okay, I can do this. I was okay until I got a neighbor who was holding a baby. The seats were cramped and I either had mom's elbow or baby's foot bumping against me the whole night. Wheh. Arrived in Guayaquil at about 3 the next day and took a cab to the hotel. I had the address for the driver but that didn't seem to help and he couldn't find it. I finally told him to just drop me off and I walked up and down the street looking, asking three times...and finally found it. The sign is about 10 inches square so it didn't exactly jump out at me. I settled into my room and crashed. I spent two nights there and didn't do much other than walk along the malecon. The city didn't appeal much but the malecon was a pretty design and a pleasant place to hang out.
