10-10 to 10-16-2013 Springdale, UT Quality Inn & RV Park, South Entrance to Zion. WOW. WOW, WOW! More amazing and different rock formations!

We left Bryce Canyon via scenic UT12 driving through the Red Canyon (yep, hard to believe, more beautiful red cliff and rock formations… very red dirt) then onto UT89 to scenic UT9 through the newly reopened Zion National Park, south entrance… Thank You to the Governor of Utah!   We were really shocked to see yet different rock formations than anywhere else (check out pictures of the checkered board line patterns in the rocks). Wow, Wow, Wow… more amazing and spectacular rock formations.  We had difficulty finding a park near Zion due to the shutdown. We had to reserve a KOA site in nearby Hurricane. Then…. As the parks reopened, so did better opportunities. We changed plans and stayed in the neat town of Springdale (we recommend a stay here for a visit to Zion). We stayed at the Quality Inn & RV Park, walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Poor Mazy had her first run in with a prickly (jumping) cactus on our first Zion hike. Dan came to the rescue, immediately pulled 5-6 spines out of her muzzle… a drink of water and she was ready to go.

State Government funding offers only partial openings of the National Parks in UT and AZ and just to October 20th. So…we are finding it difficult to get reservations in National or State campgrounds because of it. Private campgrounds are the only options in most areas, and of course normal seasonal closing is upon us as well (end of Oct.)   Next we plan to stay in Marble Canyon, Lees Ferry, then on to the Grand Canyon Village and hopefully get a glimpse of The Grand Canyon.

Then we head south on scenic AZ180 through Flagstaff and on into Sedona for a few nights, as long as snow doesn't push us further south. Talk to ya’ll soon!

Zion is at the top of my lists for national parks so glad you got to see it. Remember Dan classic car and air show in Page AZ on lake powell. Do try to get out on this incredible lake.
