On our first afternoon in Visby we stopped at a local cafe for a drink.  As always we watch the people passing by, trying to guess where they are from, making up little stories about what they might be doing.

Today as we enjoyed our drink another couple took the table next to us.  When I heard their first words of English I had to strike up a conversation.  I sometime have a longing to speak English with someone who isn't thinking in Swedish first. Hard to explain but anyway, here was a chance to not only speak English but to speak to AMERICANS!!!!

We soon discovered that Mary and Ben were really Mary and Bengt.  A couple like us, an American girl with a Swedish guy.  We enjoyed chatting and made a plan to meet on Sunday evening for dinner.

The next morning as we wandered through Visby we stopped at the Cathedral and as we sat in the back we saw them sitting ahead of us.  As they left we caught their attention and met them outside the church.  We then agreed to have lunch instead of dinner because Sweden was in the finals of Olympic Men's in handball in the late afternoon and the guys wanted to see it.

We had a wonderful lunch and a friendship developed.  We discovered that Bengt was in Sweden for his father's funeral and the service were to be held only a few 100 meters from our apartment in Kungsholmen on Thursday.  It seemed destine that we meet.

We made plans to see them after the services.  They came to our apartment for a quick visit. They returned to Wisconsin on Friday.  I know we will see them again...it was just that kind of "connection".

Best wishes to Mary and Bengt.  See you in Florida...or somewhere else!

Anyway, we are both fine, snowed this morning, I won 't say more. It's winter. !!!
Love to Lars.

Mary, we'd love to see you. Let us know your dates as soon as you can so we can "book" you! It will be fun to sing some Swedish toasts together again!
