Hi All!
Happy New Year!  Well, here I am back in the DR after a lovely three week vacation home.  I had a great time catching up with friends and family, eating good food, and doing lots of shopping so I could bring home some comforts of the developed world back to the developing world with me!  Paula came back with me and we spent a night in Santiago before heading to my campo for one night.  We unpacked all of the goodies I brought back with me, hung my new curtains, and put a cover on my couch.  The little touches from home really made a huge difference in my little house.  It also received a fresh coat of paint while I was gone, so things are looking good.  Paula got to meet my dog and my host family and see my house before we headed to the beach the next day.  I was soooooooooooo excited to see Stella after missing her while I was in the US.  She is adorable as always and greeted me with lots of kisses, jumping, and tail wagging.  As I have said before, having a little ball of fur, enthusiasm, and unconditional love waiting for me always makes my trips back to the campo easier.
We spent New Year's at the beach with lots of my Peace Corps friends.  It was a nice step between home and the campo.  It rained off and on while we were there but we took advantage of the beach while the sun was out.  After 4 days at the beach, we went back to my campo for 4 more days.  We just hung out and relaxed and played Jenga with my host family (a gift from the US that was a HUGE hit).  I checked on my garden, which seems to be doing well, and showed my face around the community after a long absence.  She got a taste of the local discotech one night, and we also holed up in my house and watched DVDs on my new laptop!  Today we are in Santo Domingo and tomorrow we are going to Santiago, and then her flight leaves from there early Tuesday morning.  It has been a great trip and so much fun to show someone around the country I have come to consider my second home.  So, hint hint . . . if you haven't made your vacation plans for 2007, come on down and get a personal guide to show you the wonders of the Dominican Republic :)
Once Paula takes off it is back to work for me.  This month I have a water filter workshop at the end of the month, and I am trying to get committees organized for the stoves and filters so I don't end up doing all of the work myself!  Hope everyone had a happy holiday season.  Check my Flickr site soon for new pictures.
Love
Margaret

Hey, Taiwanese kids love Jenga too!!! They also really, REALLY like UNO...but maybe it's not as much of a novelty in a Spanish-speaking country...
