Hi All!
In reference to the title of this entry, I am indeed becoming a crazy dog lady. Little Stella is the cutest thing I have ever seen, and I love having a canine companion here in the DR. I seriously have not been bored a minute since I got her, and even when she is being naughty she is so cute I can't get mad at her. Her hobbies include sleeping on my laundry pile, clawing at my mosquito net at 1:00 in the morning, eating trash, and nibbling my fingers and toes. She is an extremely devious little dog. For example, when she wants to run away and eat trash at the neighbor's house, she will casually wander out towards the street pretending like she is going to chew a stick or something and then, once she knows she is out of my grabbing distance, she will take off RUNNING as fast as her rather small legs can carry her. It is hilarious and even though at times I want to kill her I am so glad that I got her. So yes, I am officially obsessed with my dog. All of the Dominicans think that I am nuts because I carry her around, talk to her, and kiss her. I am sure they think I have gone off the deep end when they hear me talking to her in English from inside my house or when we walk down the road. If they only knew that I was giving her little lectures about how she needs to behave like a lady and not like a Dominican street dog!
In other non-Stella-related news, things with my work are picking up steam and I am starting to get busier. My youth group is up and running and we have our elections on Tuesday. I went to visit the site where we are going to have our organic gardens and it is pretty large - it will take a few days of hacking away with machetes to get it cleaned up and ready to plant. I have also been working with the mothers' group to plan my cookstove and water filter projects, and am still giving English classes twice a week. I love living in my own house and having my own space. I love my host family, don't get me wrong, but at 26 years old it was tough living with a family after being on my own for several years. If you are interested, I have posted more pictures on my flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/90483948@N00/ of my house and my dog. That's about it for now. I hope all is well back home. Miss you all!

Love,
Maggie
