Boracay is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a relaxing beachside holiday. I would say it gives Phuket a good run for its money. There is a nice beach and a sand walkway lined with hotels bars and restaurants. There is no road cutting off the beach which is really good. Whilst the prices are fairly expensive by Philippine standards they are still really good. Unfortunately, due to the fact that there was a cyclone in the region it was windy and rainy the whole time I was there, leaving me with not a great deal to do. I definitely think I would go back there though, I just got unlucky with the weather.
At the airport in Cebu I met a couple of Australian guys, one of whom I had bumped into in Cebu on one of my previous visits (You generally have to go via Cebu to get to most places in the Southern Philippines). They happened to be heading to Boracay also and hadn't arranged somewhere to stay so we decided to group up and use our numbers to get a good deal on some hotel rooms. When we arrived, we managed to find a nice place with Bungalows and a pool for a reasonable price. We quickly realised though that the price was so good due to the fact that they were demolishing the building next door. I decided to stay for one night but the other guys went off and found a much nicer, quieter place just up the road for the same money. The next night I moved in also. This place was easily the nicest and best value place I have stayed at anywhere so far with a nice pool and gardens, cable TV, hot water and nice decor for about $23 Australian a night! . This was just as well because it rained for pretty much the whole few days I was there!
