Oh mountainous beauty, oh fresh air! How great it was to be back in Central Europe. Austria looks similar to southern Germany and Switzerland (all mountain and greenery), but I love it. The town of Innsbruck lies in the narrow part of Austria, surrounded by Alps - it was a most majestic sight.
Opportunity presented itself to go on a guided mountain hike; so, not being one to miss a freebie, off I went. We hiked to one of the peaks (Viggarspitze), and although the going was fairly tough for the last half an hour or so, it was at a fairly relaxed pace and easy to enjoy the fantastic views. Interestingly every peak around and a Christian crucifix atop it. I had a lovely chat with the guide - apparently they have been having problem with a rogue bear who illegally immigrated from (probably) Italy. These bears eh, no consideration for borders.
