After lots of boring things like buying very expensive ferry tickets to Cadiz, we decide to head west to the other coast to a small town recommended to us by the lady in the tourist office.  As you can see we are very organised and have lots of firm plans at this point.

We decide to get a bus over as it looks like motorway most of the way, and also there's a big hill.

Very entertaining times convincing the bus driver that we will be able to get the bikes in to his luggage compartment.  It kind've works by one of us talking to him about how it could be done while the other one gets on with doing it. We get them both in and he's only a tiny bit late leaving. We are glad we didn't cycle as the roads are very big and busy.  Once we're up over the middle of the island, past La Laguna, the bus starts to tiki tour through small towns and winding roads.  Everywhere looks very lush and green compared to the eastern coast.

We arrive in Punta del Hildalgo to find a very small town at the end of the road.  To the north are jagged mountains with lush green forest and you can see out in to the Atlantic - blue sea for miles with a regular swell that all the surfers along the coast are obviously enjoying.

there is a campsite, but we get chatting to a swedish couple who tell us they have their camper out on the headland, around from a funny looking lighthouse.  We head out the end of a rough road, through a parking lot with several campers, and find a spot in fields behind a walking path looking out over the sea and with the mountains behind us.

We set up camp and then cycle about 20 mins to the next town along, Bajamar, to do some shopping and then eat at a small sea front restaurant in Hidalgo.  We head back to the tent in darkness only to be bailed up by the swedes - who have been looking out for us and have kept some food!  We eat, drink some wine and chat in their camper for a bit and discuss potential plans for a trip up to Mt Teide.  Will be difficult for us with bikes and the buses don't make a day trip possible...
