Today was the first official day in Ireland. We flew out of Newark, NJ at around 9pm after being delayed because a connecting flight carrying 27 connectors was late. After the 6 hour flight, we landed safely in Shannon, Ireland around 9:30am. We rode on a bus (Bus Eireann) for about 4 hours to Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. Here we met up with Pat O'Connel and later with the rest of our group.
We took a tour of the Charles Fort. It was very beautiful and very different than anything I've seen before. Most forts I have visited were all roped off and littered with don't do this and don't do that signs. This fort was so large and open, it was really fun to explore.
The weather during the day was very pleasant. It stayed around 58 degrees F, but it was very refreshing and I was never cold.
After the tour of the fort, we returned to the hotel to actually meet the rest of our tour group for dinner. We walked a short distance to the Fishy Fishy Cafe and sat in our own dining room on the second floor. This meal was supplied by the trip, so we were simply given a menu with a few different entree choices and dessert selections. I had the deep fried haddock and the tiramisu and they were both delicious.
I'm now ready to get a good nights rest and try and get over my mild jet lag.
