I got into Opononi quite late at night and did my usual nowhere booked to stay and hadnt even looked at the old bible to see where the hostels where.. Anyway first hostel full and so was the second.. hadnt really realised that this town was so small either.. blink and you would miss it but i found a really cool farmhouse hostel up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere.. couldnt see jack shit in the dark but the following morning the views were great. It wasnt too far then to drive on to the Kauri forest where the Kauri trees grow.. These trees trunks are up to five metres in diameter and 60 metres tall so i spent quite a while wandering about having a look at these. I stopped off then in Dargaville for something to eat and carried on south for the Coromandel.. Had to pass through Auckland on the way where hit all kinds of crap traffic but carried on To Coromandel town.
