Another 4 day week in work.. great.. left early from work on thursday too as i had that poxy 500 km drive up to christchurch.. I was heading back there again as i had got selected to play for the Canterbury badminton team.. so i was well looking forward to this... (hadnt got to train much but what can you do). Arrived up late the thursday nite and met up with barry and lynn as i was staying with them over the weekend. Friday i didnt have a whole lot on so took it easy and headed out to the badminton hall then in the evening..
The Neil cup is a south island competition and there are 4 regions who play against each other for the cup.. Canterbury. Nelson, Otago and Southland.. There is 5 men and 5 ladies on each team and we got to play 16 games against each team too. It was really cool playing this type of match as it wasnt like an ordinary league match it was pretty official with the greetings and speeches before each game.. Hadnt been involved in a match like this in years.. Anyway Canterbury hadnt won this cup in quite a few years and seemingly Otago and Southland were fancied as favourites.. (well so the write up in the paper said)... Anyway first up on friday nite was southland who were our hardest match and every game seemed to be close.. I won my singles game which i was pretty happy with and lost with Alfie in the doubles in a close game to possibly the strongest mens doubles pair in the south island... We drew the match 8 games all but we wound up winning on sets and points differnce so we were pretty chuffed.. Southland werent happy as they had spent a bundle on training and an international indonesian coach who trains them..
Saturday morning Nelson were up.. Played a stormer in the singles that morning and although the games were close we won the overall match 11 games to five. Our last match in the afternoon was Otago who seemed to juggle their players around to try and pick up some sneaky wins... Didnt really work for them and we won the match nine games to seven.. Straight to the bar then for a drink and food which me being me ate who knows how many slices of cake and big ass chocolate chip cookies. We recieved the Cup then in a presentation, so really enjoyed being apart of that.
It was into town then to meet up with Rachel and some of her friends who were also up for the weekend. I had a drink or two with them and then i headed off to meet up with Cliff, S.J and Deanna... as Rache and her crew were heading out to another bar in the suburbs to catch some other friends.. so knew i would catch them when they got back to town later. Had a great laugh catching up with the three of them and met up with Rache and her friends again in the Fish and chip bar... yes its a bar.. strange name.. From there we went on to the Stock Exchange bar... which i always liked.. dont really know where the time went but we left there at 6.30 in the morning... there was no way i was walking either so i took a taxi..
Very little sleep i got and i spent sunday catching up with Barry and Lynn before figuring i should hit the road.. really left it way to late in the evening to drive back and i was falling asleep driving.. and this was just as i was leaving christchurch.. I got meself a can of redbull and in fairness it tastes like piss unless its a jager bomb but it does actually keep you awake so rest of drive wasnt too much of a hassel... Back to Queenstown.. All ahead of me in 2 weeks again..
Been selected to play for canterbury in the slazenger cup too which is all the north and south island provinces playing for a cup... Dont know how i mis-read it as i thought it was all on over a weekend as it turns out its on for 5 days so i pretty much get a week off work to go and play that... sweet
