I told my dad that Marcelo and I had decided to visit Alaska on our journey, and he told me. Oh my cousin Nels lives there. So, I emailed Carla, Nels wife, introduced myself and asked if I could come visit them. Carla opened her arms and said please come! We are so glad that we are getting to know so many wonderful members of our extended family.
We arrived in Anchorage the day after Nels had a hip replacement and was staying with his son Nate in Anchorage. Nate and Allison have 4 wonderful boys - Will, Luke, Cameron and Joren (who was only 3 months old) and they also opened not only their house to us but gave us their time and really welcomed us into their family.
We loved Anchorage, after figuring out the public transport, we had fun exploring the city centre. Allison took us out for some amazing pizza with the boys and Nate took us white water rafting.
They cooked us some wonderful salmon and halibut which they had caught themselves.
I have to say, they are a family of adventurers, the walls are covered with pictures of each of the boys and their first salmon. I loved one of little Cameron (who is 4) holding a salmon bigger than he is. Nate told me he insisted on reeling it in by himself. All Nate could do was hold on to him so he didn't get pulled in.
We are really hoping Nate and Allison, Nels and Carla will come to the Bleakley family reunion next summer. They have been invited :)
