We stayed in Uberaba with the lovely Luciana and Marcelo. We spent a week or so crashing out at their house watching tv and I decided to brush up on my South America trivia knowledge. Luciana is learning English and I am learning Portuguese so we helped each other out a bit with this.

Marcelo's dad was one of 11 children, now there are only 4 living. Tia Cedinha is the widow of one of his brothers Prosolmiro. Joao is her husband now. Haroldo and Nubia are Marcelo's cousins. They lost their fathers (Marcelo Clea, and Haroldo Nubia) within a year of each other and so had a lot of affinity growing up. Tio Moses looked after them all.

Tio Hermes is the last living of Aurora's brothers. Aurora is Marcelo's dad's mother. There were 12 children and I am trying to do a family tree and have at least 350 names just from 2 grandparents sides. He is 91 years old and Marcelo is his great nephew. When Tia Cedinha introduced him to Tio Hermes saying - this is Pedro's son, Tio Hermes as quick as anything said - Oh last time I saw you you were only this height - gesturing to his waist. Now Marcelo's dad was his nephew and looking at the family tree he had at least 60 nieces and nephews so for him to remember the son of his nephew, at 91 years old, he is doing very well. Especially as Aurora had Alzheimers when she passed away about 7 years ago.

We enjoyed spending time with them and with Celia and Sheila their daughters. Tio Hermes is full of stories, even if I didn't understand everything he was saying, I really enjoyed spending time with them.
