To help others planning similar trips, this is how much we spent mostly staying in dorms and cooking for ourselves in expensive countries like Australia and New Zealand but staying in budget hotels and eating out in restaurants in most of South East Asia and Latin America.

£18,560 each for 540 days on the road or £34.37 each per day ranging from about £25 a day in South East Asia and South America to about £45 a day in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
