January 31

Finally landing in Stansted, I don't have a host.. so I don't necesserily know where to go. The great thing is that I was alone on the non-EU passport line, so it went all fast and easy, I showed my visa, answered the question and I was in. Simply like that. I was even told that I could maybe extend it of 6 months since I didn't validated it before now. I didn't understand or take note of the details about that though.

I grabbed my luguage and went to the lobby room of Stansted, walked around and looked how it has changed since my last visit in 2005... one of the day I actually slept in this airport.

I just took my time, refreshed in the restroom and finally decided to call home. It was like what... 2 months I had not talked with parents. I got my father on the phone and let him know that I was still alive and in London. Then I simply needed to head into town, I took the Terravision bus into town and got out in Liverpool Station (in the dark with my bag) I tried to the Generator Hostel. I needed to reach the area of King Cross station, but it was such an amazing mild night. Another thing that did great, is that the London air seem to have unblocked my nose and helped with my cold. I wasn't feeling too bad anymore.

I managed to arrive at the hostel where I stayed back in 2005 by 11hpm, checked in and discuss a bit with the night receptionnist if there could be any job opportunity. It sounded promising so I took a job application and filled it as best as I could and asked if I could eventually meet with the Human Ressource manager, yep by tomorrow morning.

For the first time in the last 8 months, I had the pain of taking money out for my accomodation. I thought though that it would be the best thing as I was coming to look for job and it wouldn't be abusing of Hospitatity then. Also, I didn't really knew personnally anybody living in London whom I could rely and feel confident at staying at the place for non-tourist purpose.
So I book the hostel until Saturday morning for 3 nights and damn it cost... in pounds, double everything!

I went to grab some snack at the local Tesco next to Russel Square and chilled a little bit in the hostel before heading to sleep in a crowded dorm. Now I also remembered why I hated hostel... the crowd and its public. All party people without really travelling - backpacking mood at all. It was mostly all really young people or 'have you seen me' fashion people. Nobody I could get at ease or have similarity. So it was better to sleep than to waste my money in the hostel bar in the meaning to get a danish girl drunk for a vacation swing... no, not for me!

A new month, I woke up normally got ready and enjoyed... the crappy English Breakfast. That I can not say I missed, eventhough the bread is the exact same one than at home.
Then by mid-morning, I showed up again at the reception to ask if there would be a possibility for job and if I could meet the Human Ressource manage. The bitch totally turned me over and was so shittyly unhelpful. It drove me mad.
I was thinking damn, their staff is already uncompetent (I was unable to receive decent travel tips, or living tips from them) and again like the first time I stayed, it looked like there was more Staffs than Guests!

So I went out in Camden and tried to find the Job Centre, stopped at the library for a moment but couldnt use the Internet there :(.
Both were another deception and complication, I don't understand why they can't simply review my case and give me proper advice and why I don't have a place to register that I'm in the country to revise my visa. Strange Administration.

So all this is a bugger, I won't succeed in a fast settlement attempt in the country... I need to give an address but I am in a hostel! I can't really get a place without having a job and neither can I have the appropriate paper for a job without an address. Stupid situation.

I went to get some more food at Tesco, saw some pretty young danish girls in the dorm but way too young and immature in a way. Anyway, I left later on by foot to the surrounding of Victoria Station to meet with Florian (HC: kiwiflave) to have a talk and share a drink... after he left back to Eastbourne, I waited that the other Florian (HC: flohfish) arrived in town at the bus station and we went to have another drink and talk before he needed to leave to the airport to catch his flight.
He gave me a contact list of people in London that I could try to get in touch with for accomodation as tomorrow would be my last day in the hostel, he also gave me the direction to his place in Poole in case I would not manage any other solution. So that I could go stay at his place.

Later on, I simply returned to the hostel paid to use the Internet and talk to an american at the bar, who is currently waiting to receive a visa to India. After a while, I head back to bed to sleep.

February 2

It was checking out day at the hostel, the last 2 nights cost me 30 pounds and at this rythm I would survive long. I put my bag in the locker room after breakfast and started hunting for a UK sim card for my phone. I finally bought one with ORANGE at a local dodgy shop for maybe too expensive. That's annoying.

At least now I could contact people. So by the afternoon, I started sending sms to the list that Floh gave me in the hope to get accomodation for the week end. I also kept using the Internet at the hostel and the whole afternoon went on without any answer :S.

My phone battery was also going low and I couldnt find anyone to help me to charge it... since I can't plug mine in UK electric plug. So again I needed to pay to charge it in a machine standing in the hostel. By 17h, I finally use my last Internet credit to book a us ticket down to Poole and use Floh's flat option to make sure I don't hang outside with my bags in London all night. At least, what wouldn't have been so bad is that the temperature is pretty mild and great eventhough its middle of the winter... ohh it also entirely killed my cold by now!

But damn, 15 min after I booked the online ticket, Dana replied me that I could stay at her place ad Nei as well and some other negative answers came too. :S
But now it's damn too late as I already have my ticket to go to Poole late tonight.

I replied to them, thanking them and explaining the situation and relaxed a bit more while talking with the american guy who revealed to also have a profile on CouchSurfing. Cool, I gave him my contact. And then I had to prepare to leave, I picked my bag and stopped at Tesco to buy some food. Also I got myself a Oyster card, which is the cheapest way to travel with the public transport in London and went by Tube to Piccadily to meet with Nei shortly.
It was 2 years we didn't see but it was great, we chatted a little but after a while I needed to go to the bus station to catch my bus to Poole (Branksome) where I finally arrived late by night to sleep in Floh's cold flat.
