hey all, sorry about the last entry, we wrote some more but it got lost along the way.   so the scrunchies bit:   we went to what is effectively a suburb (originally a town, but now linked up) called new westminster.  one of the oldest towns in the region, was a river port originally, and was promised as a step back in time, really pretty town etc etc.  well, it was a step back in time to the 80's, which is probably when it was done up last.  went to the most craptacular markets we've seen for ages, complete with a killer shop that sold a super wide range of scrunchies for a mere $2.   i had to hold tanya back!  surprisingly we did however find something we wanted to buy - a print by a first nation artist, whose paintings and sculptures are famous and appear around van city.  we then managed to hold ourselves back from the floating riverboat casino, not sure how....  so straight back on the skytrain and straight outta there.  no rush to get back there.

tanya has been a bit sick for the past week, so we havent been super active, other than me getting in a few good rides.  in the space of 4 days, i walked up 2 mountains (fromme and cypress) with my bike (literally up the side of the mountain, often via black downhill runs.  truly a marty special - sometimes it not the best plan to make it up as we go along!).  there were some whole sections of cypress mountain where we (me and a german guy i hooked up with) were walking through snow in tshirt and shorts - but beautiful weather, not cold at all.  ended up having to turn back after climbing about 1000-1100 vertical metres - it was an epic day, and we found a fantastic way home, the best downhill i've done so far.  then on the weekend i hooked up with a few other guys and went to squamish (about 45minutes north) and did the best trails we've done so far.  i've got to get some photos from the other guys, and will upload them asap, so u get an idea of the scenery, which is fanbloodytastic.

still sussing out the work situation, hopefully will get offered some work for tomorrow this afternoon, will be good, as i got my last holiday pay today!!

sleeping was a little bit of a challenge last nite (not only because i hit the ends of the double bed - can't wait to move next weeek!) because apparently it is customary to jam pack robson street (1 street over) hanging out your car windows on the horn for the whole length of the street if vancouver wins the hockey - and last night we won the playoffs against dallas, so everyone went nuts.  good for us because it gives the city a good mood,
oo oo oooooo - just got a call - i've got work tomorrow for at least a month!   i got a choice - filing or minute taking - nice, i've gone for the minute taking, pays more.   gonna be an interesting experience - its in the dept of medicine at uni of BC - i think as the PA to the dean of the school - the job i've trained all my life for!!!

well well, at least thats sorted for a bit.  [break]
so i just got back from a ride out to UBC, its about 40 mins on the bike, hopefully i will be able to ride after a few days using the bus to get there, just have to sus a place to shower and hopefully keep the bike inside (or it will remain in my possession for about an hour).  UBC is south of downtown, over the bridge past granville island (past kitsilano beach etc), on a peninsula out near the airport.  took tanyas singlespeed out there, i will get superfit if i get a chance to ride there every day.  tanya got offered a job from tomorrow too, but she needs to get a bit better b4 she starts working, hopefully a day or two.   so when i was out there, sussing out where i have to go tomorrow, i see these two dudes wearing ski goggles, sitting on a lounge out the front of this building on campus drinking beers, and then i realise its a real-life frat house, like in all those dodgy american college movies.   how classic is that!  i got a spy shot, check the photos!

ok thats enough for now, will post some good photos asap, in the meantime, theres a few i had handy.  take it easy

ps i notice the photos arent the greatest quality - they seem to be compressing a fair bit for display, rest assured i am pretty happy with the kwality at this end!

pps  all the boys are probably pretty off tap by now at the boozer for anzac day - enjoy!  we will go to a ceremony here tomo nite after work, not quite the same tho huh!  found an aussie bar tho, bound to stock bundy!
