Monday 21st July

Today was the original day that we had to leave the States - 3 months since we arrived. Thanks to US Immigration at Port Huron in Michigan we are now able to continue our trip through the States!

We left this beautiful spot and headed on through the mountains and down the other side. It was gorgeous coming down through the canyon at the bottom with the river running along side the road. Spectacular in fact.

The scenery then suddenly changed and became a moonscape with barely anything growing at all. It looked bleak and hostile which was quite a change from the lush mountains we had just driven across.  What a place of contrasts this country is!

We arrived in Cody later that afternoon which is the last stop before Y.Stone.
This is another famous Wild West town with some violent stories in its past history.

It is now a wee bit commercialised, although not completely spoiled.  We stopped at the Irma Hotel which is a famous place locally. Each night at 6pm a group of people dressed in costume, re-enact a shoot out outside the front of the hotel. It was very entertaining and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves.

We stayed at Buffalo Bill State park just to the West of Cody, by another lake.  The weather was not that great, with cool winds and a bit of rain. We were happy though because it meant we could sleep without using the A/C.
