Thursday 26th June

We left mid-morning once Steve had tracked down the right panel  for the van using the phone and GPS to locate "Camping World" where we needed to go.

The weather was miserable so it was a perfect day to just drive and forget sight-seeing. We only had to drive a short distance  and we had a nice time looking round "Camping world" they had enormous RV's on display with ridiculously posh interiors  and all sorts of gadgets for RV's that you suddenly think you can't do without!  Fortunately we only came out with the desired panel and another water hose that is a sensible length in place of the existing one that came with the vehicle and was miles to short.

Steve fitted the new panel in about 20 secs. And we then considered our next stop.

We were only about an hour or two away from one of my good English friend's Mother (who recently immigrated to the US from Newcastle in the UK). She and her husband Paul have been thinking about leaving the UK for 12 years and this year they finally got the chance to make the brave move to Springfield, Vermont.

We were going to be driving through the area anyway and although I did not have their home number I did have their address.  We decided that we would take a chance and drop by for a cup of tea.  I knew Bev (my English friend) would be disappointed if I didn't call in.

We arrived at Springfield - official home of the Simpsons - late afternoon, hoping they would be home...... and they were!  When they realised it was us they were obviously very surprised although Bev and warned them that we may turn up.  What was most incredible was that they were staggered at our timing.  They were going to Boston in the morning to collect Bev from the airport as she was flying over for a week to see them!!  So we had a cup of tea and they agreed that perhaps we should stay to see her tomorrow.

Dorothy and Paul have the most lovely, big house up a hill above Springfield on a large piece of land.  They only moved in in March at which time it was covered in deep snow. I don't think they saw the garden for about 2 months!  The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, a study and a huge sewing studio for Dorothy to continue her production line of amazing things - and they ARE amazing I can tell you!

We all had a good catch up and we then got the van organised outside their house on the drive, in a place where Paul could get his car out in the morning without us having to move out of the way.

We had some tea in the van, rather late and then all went to bed.
