Today we drove to LA - which was not an uneventful or easy undertaking. We got a little lost, got seriously stuck in a big traffic jam (1 hour to do 2 miles), drove thru Santa Barbara, Malibu and Hollywood (past Beverly Hills) then through central LA to Anaheim in the south of LA to be near Disney. We even fell victims of road rage when a van driver physically forced his way in front of us, hitting our passenger side wing mirror as he did so. I even managed to bend the step (under the side door), by hitting the curb, so badly it wasn't useable anymore.
Along the way we "discovered" a display of USAF rockets and jets - very interesting stuff I hadnt seen before.
There are 3.8 million people in LA city and 7-8 million in the complete LA county. LA is a big and rather flat place, very spread out and completely dependent on the motor vehicle. The motorways are huge - we counted one that had 8 lanes on our side alone. There is lots of Hispanic and "foreign" people in the city and I found it quite difficult to ask for directions.
We finally arrived at the RV Park we wanted to stay in at around 3:30 pm. It is a typical city RV park - no grass, RV's close together and 95% long stay people - one we spoke to has been here 7 years. The owner "Roy" was very helpful and a nice guy.
It was a great feeling to finally get to bed ready for a big "Disney" day tomorrow.
