Tuesday

After a lovely shower, then a hour of school work and a 1 mile cycle down to the beach we drove south to Brookings, about 80 miles. The view from the road on the way down is very dramatic, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, cliffs, rocky islands and rough seas smashing against the shore. We decided to get some distance under our belt early today and then stop earlier. We are only a short distance from the Californian boarder now and we will cross it maybe tomorrow or Thursday.

Caroline bought herself 2 pairs of shoes this afternoon and Holly got some jeans. We also got a mobile phone so you can call us any time you like (although we pay a small per minute charge on this end when you call) the number is 541 425 0412  if you want to call go for it - it will probably give a shock as we wont be expecting calls.

We are staying in another State Park tonight called Harris Beach - it is right on a cliff edge, close to town with dramatic views. It is still quite cold, the daytime top temp has been about 16 C and at night it drops dramatically and gets pretty cold. The van is quite warm and comfortable and doesn't suffer too much from condensation if we leave the roof top vents open a little. We are certainly looking forward to some warmer weather although in a few short months it will probably be too hot, at least cold is easier to cope with.

The kids are really enjoying the second-hand bikes we have bought for them, they are racing around the camp-sites and have had a chance to explore further than they would on foot. Tonight we have a site with cable TV - yes amazing isn't it! We have decided that a little TV wouldn't hurt for a night, at least the bikes are having a rest.

We will have a BBQ again tonight - steak here is cheaper to buy than sausages and there are really nice cuts to buy. Last night we had BBQ chicken. The portable BBQ we got has been good value for money. All of the things we purchased at the start we have made good use of.

We just went for a walk down a steep track to the sea, the sun is beginning to set and the views are wonderful.  Zach and Holly have been playing with a squirrel that comes right up to them.
