Well ...

Sorry it has been a while. We have been rather busy. Here is an outline of the last week.

Sunday

Arrived in Vancouver at 2:30 pm - rather shattered - had an early dinner at the Hotel Restaurant then hit the sack for a disturbed but much needed sleep.

Monday

Up for a early breakfast, again at the Hotel. The rental car was delivered to the Hotel by Dollar Thrifty (who were excellent). Then we went exploring to setup a bank account, checkout vehicle insurance, and generally get accustomed to things Canadian.

The bank account was easy to organise although it took for ever as we were in a HSBC bank that was completely staffed by Chinese, who were very helpful but we both had language problems (our Kiwi accent makes it difficult for them to understand us). We thought we were in the wrong country! We later discovered that there are pockets of Vancouver where large groups of migrants to the country have settled and the businesses in the area have altered themselves to suit the community.

We then headed off to look at our first RV, in the south of Vancouver - a lovely, slightly older, diesel powered vehicle. It had everything we needed but we felt it was a little expensive and we needed to checkout the market before we made our decision.

On our way back to the Hotel we visited 2 RV dealers to see what they had. The vehicles they had were late models but expensive ($30K +). So we rang and arranged to see one last RV for the day over in North Vancouver around an hour away.

Vancouver had just gone onto daylight saving time before we arrived therefore it stays light till 8:30 pm ish so we felt we had enough time to see the Van before it got dark.

North Vancouver is a lovely place, across the harbour from the city proper. It is nestled right under the very high and steep hills surrounding Vancouver. We eventually found the address we were looking for after getting very lost driving through the city with a rather poor map.

The RV was a little neglected after sitting unused for nearly 2 years but it had the right lay-out, was newer (2003), and the seller was realistic about the price being asked for it. We took the vehicle for a drive around the block and it felt huge compared to the rental car. We liked it but again felt that we had better see a couple more vehicles before we made our purchase.

We drove back to the Hotel as it was getting dark and ate in the Hotel again. The food came quick, was wholesome and they catered really well for kids. It is a bit like "Breakers" in Napier.

We crashed straight after eating  - very tired bunnies.
