The ancient capital of Myanmar, Bagan, is a great place to chill out. It is surrounded by green mountains, full of dusty roads, and oh yea, is the site of about 4,500 ancient temples, stupas and pagodas in a 45 square kilometer area. It is an absolutely breathtaking experience to see 11th, 12th and 13th century temples that dot the landscape as far as the eye can see. The pics do no justice to the experience of seeing this amazing place. It was one of the coolest places I've seen in my life.
One day the three of us took a horse cart from like 9am till 7pm around the whole area. It was absolutely amazing and we learned a ton from the horse cart guide. The whole day for the three of us on the horse cart was a total of 12 dollars...yea Myanmar is pretty cheap. The next day we rented bikes and went riding everywhere and just got lost in the endless landscape of temples, mountains and farmland. Bagan is a must see for anyone thinking of going to Myanmar. Also to anyone planning on going there spend as little time as possible in Yangon. I plan on going back and doing some trekking in Northern Myanmar some day.
So now it's back to work...but not yet... In Myanmar I got this horrible pain in my right side and I thought I had either an appendicitis or a kidney infection. So I waited till I got back to Thailand and went to the hospital...x-ray and pee test negative for kidney infection and appendicitis. He told me it was probably food poisoning and the pain should go away soon. Three days later the pain was still there and I awoke with a blistery rash that formed a line from my spine to my belly button. So I went back in and was told that I have Shingles. The rash is pretty freakin' nasty and intense but at least I didn't get it on my face. However I got it in a spot that is extremely painful because the virus attacks your nerves and surrounding skin cells and the nerves from your spine to your stomach are quite painful when agitated. It basically feels like someone is squeezing my lower back muscle in to a ball and stabbing me repeatedly with a needle in the stomach and side so I can't really work with that going on. So this is the second time I have been in a foreign country and gotten sick, Laos (stupid mosquito bite) now Myanmar (stupid shingles)...what next? Take care and all the best to you!!
