I can't believe I'm sitting in front of my computer right now. I have a really long weekend because we don't have any lectures in order to facilitate time for us to be at our field studies. I finally got up the courage to call my mom's first cousin, Petter Inge who lives in the same place that my Norwegian grandfather did when he was young. When I dialed the phone I heard him answer so I started to talk, then heard him say "so please leave a message" in Norwegian. I was caught off guard by the answering machine badly enough that I forgot my phone number and had to pause long enough to look it up after trying to explain in Norwegian who I was. It wasn't quite the way I wanted it to go. So next I tried his cell phone, which he answered immediately (making me feel even dumber about the message on the machine, haha). So I tried to explain who I was in Norwegian, but there was bad reception. The conversation started something like this:
Me: Hi, my name is Marie Lieberg and I am Ingrid's daughter, family from the USA. I was wondering if I could visit for a day or two.
Him: What? I can't hear....
Me: Hi! I'm family from the USA!
Him: You're calling from the USA?
Me: No, I'm calling from Hamar.
Him: Who are you?

So, it took me a while to explain who I was, but he was sooooo friendly once we got it all straitened out. He said that I have to come for more than just one day so I can meet a few other cousins and see the place my grandpa grew up.

But the whole reason I'm even writing this at all is because I just missed the morning train! Now I have to take another one and be 4 hours later! Off I go!
