Agenda for the afternoon: wander Union Square/downtown and do some shopping and sight-seeing. Our hotel could not have been in a more perfect location for these activities! As soon as we stepped outside our hotel doors, we were already in the thick of things...shops this way, shops that way, Chinatown over there, Union Square just steps away...let's go!
We quickly learned how to navigate downtown and it turned out to be pretty easy! Didn't get lost once!! We needed some fuel to get us going though, so we made a quick stop at a cool diner for burgers - they were SO good! Just what we needed to keep us going for the afternoon. We wandered up and down the streets, checking out all kinds of stores...from trinkets to Chanel, San Fran really has it all
! I made a pit stop at Banana Republic to see what they had, and boy did I hit the jackpot! Huge summer sale going on, most items were 40% off or more...I walked out with 2 tops and 2 skirts for less than $60 - score!!!! However, Kory was more excited about the sights rather than the shopping (typical male!) so after BR we headed towards the sight he'd been dying to see...the Transamerica Pyramid. Wow what a building! So much amazing architecture to be found in San Fran, we had so much fun gazing at all of the different buildings. Soon we came upon Bloomingdale's and, of course, I just had to see what all the fuss was about. Well, find out I did! 5 levels of designer clothing, I thought I'd died and gone to fashion heaven!! Kory literally had to drag me out of there by the arm. I was hoping to set up camp in a corner where no one would see me, so I could *hopefully* get locked in at closing time and spend the night trying on every possible thing - LOL! However, time was passing a little too quickly and before we knew it, it was time to head back to the hotel to gear up for Game #2.
Our seats for Game #2 were a far cry from the oustanding "big deal" seats we had for Game #1, but in AT&T Park there really isn't a bad seat in the house! We snacked on sweet potato fries and nachos and settled in for the game, but quickly found we couldn't sit still - must've still been in "sight seeing" mode from the afternoon
! So we spent most of the game wandering the promenade that goes around the park, taking in the game for various viewpoints. And yay!! The Giants won!!! It was such an exciting game...tied up until the 9th before the Giants took the lead with 1 run! And the best part...it was also Fireworks Night!!! As soon as the game ended, the lights in the park went out and the fireworks started up. By far, the best fireworks either of us has ever seen - they were unbelievable!!! They were set to music, which just added to the overall awesomeness. We were blown away, as was the rest of the audience - except for maybe the seagulls flying overhead, flapping for their lives away from the bright lights and loud booms! Once the show was over, we joined the masses exiting the park (Mom, I had flashbacks of Kansas City and walking down the large ramps with the crowd!) and even joined in the chant of "Let's Go Giants, Let's Go!". Such a fun atmosphere to be a part of!
A quick jaunt back to our hotel and we were totally pooped out from Day 2. Better rest up for tomorrow's adventure: Fisherman's Wharf and a night tour of Alcatraz!!
