Where I stayed
So we arrive in Hoi An after the bus journey from hell - the seats are for short tiny people not us giants so it was impossible to get a good sleep - your feet are tucked into a box like bit at the bottom of the bed and everytime the driver slams on the brakes (which is regularly) your wee feet get crushed in the box - not pleasent. They also tell you there is a toilet on the bus when you book your ticket but what they dont tell you is that they wont be opening the toilet as it smells the bus out - so you spend half the night thinking you need a pee cause you know you cant pee !!!!!!
So we get off the bus eventually and find a hotel that has a pool woo hoo things are looking up. We all jump straight in, Zac & Jodie got off at Hoi An too so its some pool time at last in the baking heat.
The town itself is beautiful - its actually a UNESCO world heritage site due to is well preserved buildings and it had such a lovely feel to it. We spent the next few days like we were on a holiday, lazing around in day time and going out for nice meals in the evening it was lovely to get a rest from all the sightseeing in the big cities.
Hoi An is also famous for dressmaking - you can have pretty much anything you want made here for cheap, clothes, shoes, bags and god knows what else - anyway after still not finding a good paid of shorts I decided to get some made for $10 which was great at last a pair of shorts that fit properly and not skinny asia sizes :-)
I also got a mexican food fix, Marc and I went out for a bit to eat and ended up finding the most amazing mexican food so we splured on a delicious lunch with yummy cocktails too - love being a lady what lunches - mm mmm great wee afternoon :-)
Food seemed to figure high in Hoi An we also found a great restaurant just over the bridge to the left it was called Fish n Chips n stuff and it was amazing, he also did us big glasses of beer for 2000 Dong which is 5 pence !! Crazy cheap - both Wo and his family were lovely and the food was sooo delicious - chicken wontons and fresh spring rolls were amazing. He also advertised that he didnt use MSG (its a food enhancer that I think is banned in the UK) but in asia this stuff comes in a dish alongside your salt n pepper just to add as you wish!!
Unfortunately things went a bit sour just before we left - our mate Zac was walking home from the bar by himself around midnight and he got attacked by 4 or 5 locals on bikes wanting his money, they were trying to throw boulders at him - fortunately he was bigger than them and got away but made us really wary the next night out.
We are heading off to Nha Trang next - the beach destination - cannot wait to get some time by the beach - all that stands in our way is another bus journey haha
COSTS
Cost of double room in hotel - £11 for room
Cost of draught beer - 5 pence
Cost to get a dress or shorts made - £6
Hop on hop off bus ticket from Hanoi - Saigon £26
