1 day Backwater Tour on a houseboat

So amoung many other things Kerala regions is famous for its houseboats and backwater tours. We were going to head further south to a place called Allepey which is the hub of backwater tours but our friendly tour man Stanley who's wife we did our cooking class with seemed a nice genuine guy and explained that there are so many of them there that its just full of boats and tourists and his boat goes in other areas with only one other tourist boat in that area and it was a non motor boat too so relaxing n stuff – we were sold, saved us packing again to get a bus for several hours to find a new room bla bla so we signed up.

We were picked up at 8am and joined a few other tourist for our full day trip, we drove for about 1.5 hours to get to the boat and sure enough it was lovely we sat down in the shade and off we drifted though all these tiny alleyways in the backwaters with 2 guys using a ginat bamboo stick to push this huge boat through the water – how they do it in the hot sun is beyond me

We stopped at a few villages to see how the made rope from coconut shells, another place made calcium powder from some sort of sea shells. We stopped for a traditional lunch served on banana leaf which was delicious then it was back on the boat for another couple of hours lazing down the river.  Well once the food and a wee kingfisher beer hit my belly sitting on the relaxing drifting boat I once again thanks to Marcs arm on the back of my chair, managed to doze off, all I seem to do is sleep at weird times – I actually woke myself up with a snore – aparently I was asleep for about 45 mins in an upright chair haha !

Anyway trip ends it was beautiful back home to check out our options on how to get to Delhi !!
