Right back where we started from ...
We flew from Saigon to Bangkok to Trat and ferried the straits to the garden island of Koh Chang. A bit off the main tourist path, we enjoyed two weeks of sand, swimming, reading, eating and longs walks on the beach. We stayed one week in "luxury bungalows" on Haad Kai Mook - Pearl Beach. We even went into the unknown - motorcycles. Yep, we had free use of the owner's 125cc motorcycle - and Ernie drive really well! It was great to explore more of the island than we could have otherwise.
For our second week we "camped" in beach front huts on a long sandy white beach with plenty of palm trees (Which could be dangerous, if a coconut fell on your head!) We had to wade out in the shallow water past cruising jellyfish to swim in crystal clear sea. Me, being a complete coward over the possibility of touching a jelly, looked like an idiot trying to wade though them, which maybe we'd see 2 to 15 on the way out to the "safety zone." The receptionist said I looked as though I were "looking for something I lost" while wading out...she then began to laugh (Ernest was quick to join in, thanks). The Thais have a different technique, some just run, and keep running (the water is quite shallow), or don't even look. (eww....)
We also bought a copy India Lonely Planet book in Saigon (for a 95 VND, Ernie is a hard bargainer!) So we are also starting to plan a month or more there for December.
