We've been in Viet Nam for a week now, exploring Ha Noi and a three day trip east, to Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We flew into Hanoi from Laos on the 31st of August. It is a beautiful city dominated by a lake in the old district where most backpackers stay. We found a nice guesthouse to stay in with a balcony overlooking the red-tiled roofs of the city. The city bustles with energy and noise.

Ha Long Bay is absolutely stunning, filled with thousands of rock formations/islands in beautiful blue-green waters! We travelled and stayed one night on a Vietnamese junk boat with three other couples and enjoyed kayaking, some trekking and swimming. Saw some sting rays (small) and lots of fish.

Our next destination is to the northern city of Sapa by the border with China.
