Just a quick note to say that the doctors think Ernie will survive his run-in with the Tuk-Tuk (three wheeled, cheap transportation), which occurred just outside of Don Muaeng Airport (Bangkok). He was so excited to finally arrive that he was frantically waving down every passing truck, van and goat cart trying to get a ride to our hotel in Bamglamphu district. During the same time, I was looking at sarongs, jade and juice smoothie vendors, ready and willing to barter and spend my fresh baht-bucks! Well, I heard the tires screech, the chickens fly and Ernie dropped all my luggage... OK OK now Ernie is saying "Maija, that is not helpful (what I'm writing) my sister does not know what a Tuk-tuk is"

Part two: What can I say that hasn't already been said? yes, mom and mom, we are still alive. No, we have not gotten the bird flu yet (dad). No, I haven't sold Ernie into the Thai slave trade... Let's start with the most important (i can't type well) ... THE FOOD IS GREAT! The fumes from the exhaust is stinky! The people are (aside from scammers) are wonderful and kind. We've seen about 10 wats in 4 days, an emerald Buddha, a golden Buddha and most importantly, the Thai king is in the hospital, so on any given day about a fifth of the population is wearing the same yellow polo shirt with "i love the king" in Thai - or is this the usual? I am amazed at the tailors who work on the sidewalk sewing on vintage machine surrounded by noisy cars, driving advertisements, people and endless exhaust fumes ... everything is new and amazing .. we leave Ayutthaya tomorrow for Lop Buri (more wattage - ha ha)as we head towards Chang Mai (Northern Thai capital)

Hurray !!
Glad you made it. What exactly happened with the Tuk-Tuk ? The Salinas's are leaving in the AM the
31st. They had a great visit and wish you the best on your trip. Sounds like you need to head into the country to get away from the car fumes.
Love the travelogue !!

So did Ernie try to race the Tuk-Tuk and that is how he was injured? Jenna says please send back some Jade bling. Baptism is Wednesday, we are living in a hotel because our house was flooded! Wish we were with you, I miss you soooo much! Going to have some Flagstaff cheese and wine and think of you! -Jenna's Mom
