Checked out of the hotel to travel to Pelling in West Sikkim. Stopped on the way to visit Bhutia Busty Monastery which turned out to require a walk up a very steep hill. This monastery contains the original copy of the Tibetan Book of the Dead but we didn't get to see it (need special permission) but the monastery was lovely with great views of the mountains.

Then hit the road, a pretty scary road in fact which dropped over 1000m in the space of a few kilometres. We found ourselves in a tropical river valley. Then we were stopped at the Sikkim border to have our Sikkim permits checked.

Then the most glorious drive high above the river along the valley, surrounded by mountains. It was totally incredible! Phub had arranged a hotel for us, and when we arrived we couldn't believe our eyes - it was perfect! It was perched on the top of a ridge with mountain views to three sides. Although it was cloudy we were told that we were very close to the Kangenjunga range and we should be able to see it in the morning.

Finally some chilling out time - but no internet connection. Miraculously my mobile phone works and I have been able to keep in text contact with home though.
