What I did
Dra. Melissa Morales

Flag of Costa Rica  , Province of Puntarenas,

In 2009 we visited Puerto Jimenez for the first time.

We were having breakfast in a local soda (cafe) and talking to another traveler from the US who had come to Costa Rica for dental surgery in San Jose and was exploring the Osa Peninsula while waiting for another procedure date.

He said that he had just met a woman who had had her teeth cleaned in Puerto Jimenez.  Our dentist in Austin retired after we did and we were due for a cleaning.

That's how we discovered our wonderful dentist.

One of the reasons we are back in Puerto Jimenez on this trip is for Robert to get another crown put on one of his teeth and for me to get my teeth cleaned

Dentist on Sunday

Dra. Morales has told us her goal is to make going to the dentist a pleasant experience and she has exceeded our expectations for sure!  We had been communicating via email and  Facebook before this trip and she had told Robert to let her know when we were going to be in town.

Robert had read the calendar wrong and we discovered we had less time than we thought in PJ but Melissa worked with us and got the work done in record time !  She says she has a new lab in San Jose she really likes and she said she would  put the work on the plane in Puerto Jimenez to San Jose and work to get it back the same week. Awesome!

Preparing for the Crown

After we located her nice new office she worked on Robert's teeth for a little over two hours , cleaning,  preparing the impression to send to the lab in San Jose, and creating  a temporary crown.

She xrayed and found a cavity next to the area and also advised Robert to replace an odl amalgum filling nearby.    While she was working on Robert's teeth, even though this is technically the dry season in Costa Rica it started raining.  It rained off and on for a little over two hours and was raining when we left and so we decided to have dinner at the closest place we knew, Juanitas

Getting Crown, cavities filled and Laura's teeth cleaned

We had made arrangements to have the work done on the following Saturday afternoon.  She cleaned Laura's teeth first and once again, it was painless and very professionally done.
She finished Robert's work and   put the new crown on.  Checked to make sure everything was seated correctly and once again a very professional job.

Clinica Dental

Several people have expressed interest in our story of going to the dentist in Puerto Jimenez.  We find the town to be a pleasant  place to explore while having the work done especially staying at Cabinas Jimenez and using the kayaks! We also can suggest Captain Mark Corn's nice new place, Cabinas-Tropicales.

Though we have not yet stayed there Melissa's family has a lodge near the entrance to Corcovado National Park http://www.facebook.com/pages/La-Leona-Eco-Lodge/113119235384554

Another reason we recommend  Dr. Melissa Morales as a good as a dentist for foreign travelers is because she is bilingual with Spanish and  English!
