1) Run a half marathon. I have done this once before (when I was casually running 8 miles a day for fun - seriously, who was I?) but over the past year I have had to do a lot of physical therapy for different ailments. Setting this as my goal means I really DO have to re-hab my hip and ankle as well as take care of the rest of my body regularly.
2) Get Yoga Teacher Certified. Unfortunately, I still have not heard back from the 'free' certification program but if that doesn't happen I would like to look into other affordable options for getting certified
3) Live in the Moment. This was a 'goal' last year as well and I actually do feel like I made a lot of progress staying present and enjoying what was happening around me. Part of the reason I left my work at Citizen Schools and decided to learn Spanish and travel South America, was because one day I realized how little of the last 8 years of my life I remember. And the reason that I remember so little is because I was always looking ahead and I over-saturated myself with so many activities and clubs and responsibilities that I never was present, there was always something else to be thinking about and working on. And all of sudden (with the life-changing help of a leadership coach) I realized that if I didn't stop that pattern immediately, I would live like that for the rest of my life. And I decided that I don't want to sit at a dinner table with my family when I'm 50 and not remember my 20s because the 70 hour work weeks all blend together. So progress has been made, because I have allowed myself to step off the conveyor belt and enjoy life and figure out what I want
4) Launch my non-profit. A big part of the reason I am down in South America right now is because I want to start a non-profit that brings low-income students from the states to developing nations to engage in service-learning projects, grassroots organizing and a leadership development program. The past few weeks I have actually begun to work on the branding, mission & vision statements and fund-raising opportunities to get the project off the ground this year. My goal is to be an incorporated non-profit by the summer and run the first service program in the summer of 2013 (that is if the Mayans can extend their calendar and let us all live).
[If you want to know more about the project I would love to share and get input - I'm just not ready to put it up on world wide web quite yet :) ]
So there it is. 2012. It's going to be a big year :)
Happy New Year everyone!!
