As a run up to climbing Gunung Kinabalu, my girlfriend & I headed north to Kluang in Johor, Malaysia where we climbed Gunung Lambak (510m) as part of our physical conditioning preparation. We were joined by a trekking mate of ours for this weekend climb.
We took the standard route up via the Lambak Eco-Resort to the summit hut before making a side-trek down to the locally famous big-tree trunk & waterfall/stream. Doing so took us down from 510m to 155m along a steep & slippery descent. Thankfully it hadn't rained on the day itself, else the return climb back to the summit hut would hv been more difficult.
In all, we completed about 1510m in total ascend/descent altitude. Not only was it a good workout, it allowed us to hv a clearer picture of our own condition.
