Today dawned bright, hot and for once the forecast was only 30% chance of rain! That's the pattern here in Florida in the summer months. Sunny mornings, high humidity, rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon - oh yes and the odd hurricane thrown in now and then. We are not moving on until Wednesday, we've stopped climbing in and out of RV's; so we thought we would head for the beach today. We packed some lunch, stopped on the way to buy some very necessary sun cream and headed off westwards. Tampa and it's suburbs is quite large and it took us about of an hour to traverse it, virtually on a straight road from where we are staying through 'car alley' lined with car lots, garages, tyre shops etc, past shopping malls, through shabby residential districts and then ones with very nice, neat dwellings eventually taking one of the several causeways across to the island.

Honeymoon Island state park, (yes it's for real! - zoom right in on the map to see) was just lovely.

Because it's a state park it's unspoiled by high rise or blocks of condos; miles of white sand and turquoise warm waters. Sadly no palm trees though. It wasn't crowded as you will see from the photos, but it was dammed hot! Thankfully there was a cool breeze blowing from the sea, without which it would have been impossible to stay for long. As it was we had a couple of hours before our common sense told us it was time to leave.

Malc says he has never, ever swum in such warm water...it was about 85 degrees!! In the shallow lagoons that lined the shore I think it was even hotter than that! All in all a great day, so different from last week!
