Our breakfast was in a tiny restaurant across the street from the temple. We had rice with tumeric and 8 herbs; Maija's was vegetarian and Maurice had chicken and egg. Delicious!
At Wat Pho we saw the actual Reclining Buddha which is phenomenal. The size of this statue is 46 meters long by 15 metres high and is gold plated. The feet are engraved with mother of pearl.
The grounds of Wat Pho have more than 1000 Buddhas and cover about 20 acres
We walked a few streets and ended up at the market; lots of smells, some not so pleasant, with fresh vegetables and alot of vehicles and people. The flower market nearby had several plants not normally seen at home; bird of paradise, lotus and orchids in various colours.
Before returning to the hotel, we stopped at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel for a drink on the outside verandah overlooking the Chao Phraya river. It was quite posh and and we enjoyed living the life of the rich for an hour.
Afterwards, Maurice dropped Maija off for her last foot massage in Bangkok, this time in a spa. The price was more than previously, but for 300 Baht it was still very affordable. Each massage has been different but relaxing and enjoyable, like a form of meditation. The masseurs have all used reflexology and traditional Thai massage techniques and each time ended with a combination of neck, back, head or arm massage.
One more dinner here in Bangkok and tomorrow we leave with Bangkok Air to fly to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand.
