Before we enter St.Michaels there are two great anchorages we want to explore off the Miles River. The first is Leeds Creek which is opposite St.Michaels on the river it has a tricky entrance "NO MARKERS" so you have to either sound your way in or get local knowledge we choose to sound in.We were more than half way in the entrance of the creek when the depth went from 10ft to 3ft so we turn slightly to starboard to find deeper water and we enter on 6-8ft AWESOME.The entrance and creek itself is a BIG SECRET many of our GOVENERS and top political people live here and they pay good money to not publizie this great place. We are so glad we are adventurous because this is absolutely beautiful---Goveners mansions, the mysterios PINK MANSION with secret passages and stories.WE find a great cove and drop the hook and soring over was two adult and two young EAGLES and the nest was off our anchorage so we can watch with the binoculars. We are all to ourselves and we explore by dinghy to admire all the nature and beauty. The next spot is 2.5 miles up the Miles River called HUNTING CREEK.There is an Island called LONG POINT you anchor on the East side of the Island and there is a small sandy beach to swim and let the Doxies play. There is only one boat another MAINSHIP "SOUTHERN SUN" from Pa.We secure the anchor drop the dink and go over and introduce ourselves they were very nice people but made it clear they just wanted to CHILL they were somewhat local people wanting to just leave the world behind and we have great respect for that so we explore up the creek to again find beautiful colonial manors. We love the anchorage so much we decide to stay an extra day. While walking the sand spit I spot something in the water on the edge.I thought it was a stick (MS.SCARLETT) loves to fetch so I reach down to pick it up AND IT WAS A SNAKE!!!!!I scream the dogs come running and Roger stands laughing whats wrong with that picture. Now we hear gun fire pop, pop, pop.Skee shooting----guess thats why they call it Hunting Creek.Mr. Dach is frightened so he high tails it back to the dinghy he is ready to go to the boat.Ms. Scarlett is find not scared at all.We have a great evening on BLUE DOLPHIN and awake to some wind and weather a front is to pass through so we pull anchor early and head to St.Michaels where we have reservations at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Marina You have to be a member to use their marina so we join for $100 so our dockage is $1.50 a ft plus $15 for electric it is an 18 acre facility complete with the TOLCHESTER BANDSTAND,THE HOOPS STRAIT LIGHTHOUSE moved there in 1966,a working boatyard and lots more a really cool place. All the other dockage is $3.50-$4.50 a ft plus $30 for electric.St Michaels is the second busiest harbor and lots of the GOOD FOLK with the 100footers and more frequent here to shop, spa and enjoy all the fine restaurants and atmosphere.Lots to do here and love the museum so will stay until Tuesday then head towards Oxford. It is always a good feeling to be tied to the dock so you dont have to worry about all the mishaps that can happen on the hook so we will take advantage of shopping, groceries and being tied up.OFF TO SHOP!!!!!
