TODAYS RUN TO ORIENTAL WILL BE SHORT BUT A GOOD THING,TODAY IS VERY WINDY AND WE HAVE TO CROSS THE PAMLICO SOUND. THERE IS NO LUNAR TIDE HERE IT IS ALL WIND DRIVEN SO WHEN THE WIND BLOWS STRONG IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION IT ACTUALLY BLOWS THE WATER INTO THE RIVERS CAUSING FLOODING AND BRIDGE CLOSINGS THAT CAN EFFECT YOUR WATER TRAVEL.THEN IF THE WIND IS BLOWING IN ANOTHER DIRECTION IT CAN BLOW THE WATER OUT OF THE SOUND AND YOU CAN RUN AGROUND .THE CROSSING WAS ROUGH AND LUMPY AND DIFFICULT TO DOCK.ORIENTAL HAS BECOME WIDELY KNOWN AS "THE SAILING CAPITAL OF NORTH CAROLINA".THE MAGNET OF SHELTERED CREEKS HAS DRAWN UP-COUNTRY CAROLINIANS AND WORLD RANGING CRUISERS ALIKE THERE WITH IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO THE COUNTRYS SECOND LARGEST ESTUARY AND ONE OF THE BEST SAILING,CRUISING AND GUNKHOLING AREAS ANYWHERE.ORIENTAL IS A SMALL,QUAINT VILLAGE THAT WELCOMES BOATERS.POPULATION 10000 AND IN THE SEASON 2500 IT  HAS AN INFECTIOUS ATMOSHERE.LOCAL FISHERMEN SELLING FRESH FISH,LOCAL ART,GREAT RESTAURANTS(ALL PET FRIENDLY)CUTE FLOWER LANDSCAPED HOMES AND LOTS OF FRIENDLY FOLKS.AS YOU WALK OUT THE MARINA WALK THERE ARE  SIGNS POSTED---"BEWARE OF SNAKES"SINCE IT IS FRESH WATER THERE ARE WATER MOCCASINS THAT HAVE TAKEN UP RESIDENCE SO YOU HAVE TO STOMP WHILE YOU WALK TO LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE COMING.THEY WERE EVEN SPOTTED IN TOWN SWIMMING AROUND THE BOATS.THEY HAVE A GREAT MARINE CONSIGNMENT STORE AND ALL AMENITIES WITHIN WALKING OR BIKE DISTANCE.THIS IS A PLACE I COULD CALL HOME.WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR VISIT HERE AND WILL DEFINITELY STOP ON OUR WAY BACK.OUR NEXT STOP WILL BE OCRACOKE A SIDE TRIP FROM THE ICW ON THE OUTER BANKS WILL BE WORTH THE EXTRA TIME AND TRAVEL.HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL

You almost had me; right up until you said there's water moccasins. I draw the line at snakes swimming around my boat!
Missing you, Karen
