WE BEGAN OUR CRUISE UP THE CRYSTAL COAST TO BEAUFORT,N.C.WE PASSED THE EMERALD ISLE DOTTED WITH BEAUTIFUL COASTAL HOMES.THEN ATLANTIC BEACH LOTS OF PROPERTY FOR SALE AND VERY SCENIC.WE FOLLOWED THE MOOREHEAD CITY CHANNEL TOWARD BEAUFORT INLET  WE PASSED THE FORT MACON COAST GUARD  STATION AND PARK AND PROCEEDED UP THE CHANNEL TO HISTORIC BEAUFORT.THERE ARE SEVERAL ANCHORAGES  OFF THE MARINA WITH A DINGHY DOCK.ACROSS FROM THE TOWN DOCKS IS CARROT ISLAND WHERE YOU CAN GLANCE AND SEE THE WILD MUSTANGS ROAMING AND GRAZING.BEAUFORT WAS INCORPORATED IN 1722 AND IS THE THIRD LARGEST CITY IN N.C.HISTORY LIVES IN THE CENTURIES OLD RESTORED HOMES,BEAUTIFUL CHURCHES,THE MARITIME MUSEUM  ALL ALONG THE WATERFRONT.ORIGINALLY CALLED FISH TOWN ,BEAUFORT'S INTRIGUING HISTORY IS BASED ON BOTH LAND AND SEA,INCLUDING FAMOUS PATRIOTS LIKE OTWAY BURNS AND THE NOTORIOUS EDWARD TEACH ALSO KNOWN AS BLACKBEARD.THERE ARE FERRIES THAT RUN TO TAKE YOU TO ALL THE DIFFERENT ISLANDS,CAPE LOOKOUT,SHACKLEFORD BANKS,SAND DOLLAR ISLAND AND HORSE(CARROT ISLAND),FRONT STREET IS LINED WITH RESTAURANTS SERVING FRESH SEAFOOD RIGHT OFF THE BOATS,GREAT SHOPPING,AND A WATERFRONT PARK.IT WAS GOOD WE STAYED FOR A FEW DAYS WHILE THE FRONT WENT THROUGH 40-50MPH WINDS AND LOTS OF RAIN AND COOL 40"S IN THE MORNING AND HIGHS 60 NO SUN.WE MET SEVERAL INTERESTING SAILORS ESPECIALLY THE FRENCH COUPLE FROM FRANCE.THEY PURCHASED THEIR 40FT SAILBOAT 5 YRS AGO AND SAILED FROM FRANCE THROUGH THE MEDITERRANEAN  AND MADE THEIR  WAY TO THE USA.EVERYONE WAS HELD UP FOR DAYS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER AND ONCE IT CLEARED EVERYONE WAS READY TO TRAVEL.OUR NEXT STOP WILL BE ORIENTAL,N.C.
