WE LEFT SAVANNAH AND HEADED 64 MILES NORTH TO BEAUFORT,S.C.AS WE HEADED TO THE SAVANNAH RIVER WE HEARD SEVERAL CARGO SHIPS AND BARGES ALERTING NORTH AND SOUTH BOUND TRAFFIC OF THEIR APPROACH.WE ENTERED FIELDS CUT AT SOME WHAT LOW TIDE AND WAS CRUISING AT 8-10 KNOTS THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THUD,BUMP AND THE WHOLE BOAT LIFTED UP OUT OF THE WATER OVER SOMETHING WE BACKED DOWN AND ACCESSED THE SITUATION ALL SEEMED TO BE OKAY BUT WE DEFINITELY HIT SOMETHING.WHEN WE REACHED THE DOWNTOWN DOCKS OF BEAUFORT AND WAS ABLE TO VISUALLY CHECK IT OUT THE PRIMER AND BOTTOM PAINT WAS CHIPPED OFF EXPOSING THE WHITE FIBERGLASS. OFF THE BOW. WE WILL KEEP AN EYE ON THE DAMAGE AND WILL HAVE THE BOAT HAULED OUT IN VA.WE PASSED HILTON HEAD ISLAND AND THE LIGHTHOUSE,CALIBOGUE SOUND WHICH WAS QUITE CHOPPY AND THEN DAUFUSKIE ISLAND NAMED BECAUSE IT WAS THE (DA-FUS-KEY-THE FIRST KEY)THERE IS NO BRIDGE LINKING THE ISLAND TO THE MAINLAND THE SMALL NATIVE POPULATION ARE DESCENDENT'S OF SLAVES BROUGHT FROM AFRICA LIVED AN ISOLATED LIFE HAVING LITTLE CONTACT WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND LACKING MODERN CONVENIENCES.WE ALSO HAD TO NAVIGATE THE PORT ROYAL SOUND AND PASS PARRIS ISLAND WHICH IS THE MARINES BOOT CAMP.BEAUFORT WAS FOUNDED IN 1711 AND IS A HISTORY BUFFS PARADISE.THERE ARE SEVERAL OLD CHURCHES AND CEMETERIES WITH SOME BRITISH AND CONFEDERATE FLAGS FLYING ON THE GRAVE SITES.MANY OF THE TOWNS MAJESTIC HOMES ARE VISIBLE FROM THE WATER HIGH ON THE BANKS OF THE RIVER.THERE IS AN ARSENAL FROM 1776,PLANTATION HOMES,LIVE OAK TREES THAT ARE MAGNIFICENT IN SIZE AND AGE AND SHAPE.THEY HAVE AN AWESOME CARRIAGE TOUR WHICH WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE MR.DACH IT WAS INCREDIBLE.SWINGS AND SHADE TREES LINE THE WATERFRONT PARK TO SIT AND ENJOY THE WATER VIEW.LOTS OF RESTAURANTS WITH SOUTHERN FOOD AND CHARM.A GREAT PLACE TO SPEND A FEW RELAXING DAYS .OUR NEXT DESTINATION IS CHARLESTON S.C. THE ISLE OF PALMS.MOTHERS DAY WE WILL SPEND AT THE MYRTLE BEACH YACHT CLUB.
