FORGOT TO MENTION IN PREVIOUS BLOG WHEN WE WERE IN CUMBERLAND ISLAND ANCHORAGE WE SAW A NUCLEAR SUBMARINE BEING ESCORTED BY THE NAVY OUT OF KINGS BAY NAVAL STATION TO THE OCEAN IT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE.AS WE WERE HEADED TO JEKYLL ISLAND WE HAVE TO PASS LITTLE CUMBERLAND ISLAND WHERE WE SAW MORE WILD HORSES GRAZING OFF THE BEACH,SOME PRIVATE HOMES IN THE TREES AND THE OLD CUMBERLAND ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE.THERE WAS ALSO A GREEN SHIPPING LANE BUOY WASHED UP ON THE BEACH .WE HAVE TO ROUND RED BUOY 32 IN THE OCEAN TO ENTER THE SOUND TO JEKYLL ISLAND. TODAY IT WAS SO CALM AND THERE WERE SEVERAL SHRIMP BOATS AND THE SOUND AND OCEAN WERE CALM .WE WERE ENTERING ON AN OUTGOING TIDE AND WESTERLY WINDS SO MADE FOR A CALM CROSSING.WE SAW A HUGE SEA TURTLE JUST SWIMMING ON TOP OF THE WATER HE WAS SWIMMING ALONG FOR THE LONGEST TIME BEFORE HE DOVE FOR DEEPER WATER.WE HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE PRIVATE ISLAND OF JEKYLL IT HAS BEEN SUSTAINED IN ITS NATURAL STATE.THERE ARE FEW ROADS AND MANY BIKE TRAILS OVER THE ENTIRE ISLAND.THE STATE OF GEORGIA PURCHASED THE ENTIRE ISLAND IN 1947.ONLY 35 % OF THE ISLAND CAN BE DEVELOPED.THERE IS THE MILLIONAIRES VILLAGE THE COMMUNITY ROCKEFELLER,VANDERBILT,MORGAN AND PULITZER ENJOYED.THERE ARE 33 OF THE COTTAGES REMAINING AND THE JEKYLL ISLAND CLUB HOTEL WHERE PEOPLE STILL PLAY CROQUET ON THE FRONT LAWN IN THEIR CROQUET ATTIRE.THEY ALSO HAVE HORSES TO RIDE ON THE OCEAN BEACHES.TOMORROW WE CROSS TO BRUNSWICK.
