Helsinki is a beautiful place, very clean and well planned. They expect snow within a month. We have enjoyed the trees with their autumn colours and many views of the water.
Today we enjoyed pottering around Helsinki. At 8am Paul woke me up and said "get up, the bus is leaving soon". Thank goodness, it was not reality. Had breakfast and sorted papers, bags, Internet "stuff" before enjoying a quick walk down to the Esplanade to catch a bus ( yes another one!), to do a 90 minute tour of the city. Back for a walk around the market - fascinating - and then for a quick drink and bite to eat before returning to the hotel at 2pm to pack up proper. The hotel had graciously made a dental appointment for me with one of the local private dentists, so half an hour later tooth repaired and a happy customer out on the streets again. On a recommendation from a friend, we caught the no. 10 tram to the end of the line, but couldn't figure out how to pay, so didn't and the person we asked could not understand us. Got to the end of the line without knowing it, and a young man who had obviously figured out what we were doing, kindly indicated we needed to get off - which we did, waited 5 mins and back on again to return to the city. Wandered the shops and back to the hotel for our 6pm collection for the airport. 10hr flight tonight and a major time change.
