Finally, the day of Frank and Marika's wedding. We met at a state hall in the city center and I must say that a wedding outside of a church is a very different experience. Firstly, there was no music (besides an a capella performance) second they sit at a desk while a state official delivers a very formal address. All in all it took about 40 minutes. Afterward we had champagne and cake taking a 2 hour break before the reception which was at an oceanside restaurant.
Frank toasted all of the tables with a thank you and brief description of who was sitting there. Frank expressed a tremendous amount of gratitude for having everyone travel so far to see him off, especially the four Americans.
After dinner we started doing shots and dancing. It gets a little foggy after that but after review of the pictures I can safely say I had a great time. We got back to the hotel at 6 am and I was woken up by a hotel receptionist face down in my underwear at noon (Check out was 11, haha)
After giving Frank and Marika a huge hug goodbye I took the ferry and drove three hours back to Dusseldorf. 13 kilometers outside we got stuck in dead stopped traffic for two hours because Tamil demonstrators had stopped traffic in both directions. Making people miss their flights is not the best way to endear people to your cause in my humble opinion, but obviously a few hundred Tamil expatriates disagreed.
It's off to Rome early tomorrow where I will meet Chris (Who arrives Tuesday). It's is going to be nice gaining a travel buddy. Hopefully, no more solo photos :)
