Day 7 Write Up

Today we awoke to more sunshine with a few more clouds lingering around.  It was our last day with the tour group and packed full of exciting activities.  We had breakfast with Kathy & Bill and then met the entire group at 8:15.

We were off on an hour plus bus ride to Lake Louise.  The bus took us on the Bow Valley Parkway which is much more scenic than the normal highway.  It was a nice ride and we were hoping for continued sun, however as we drove along more clouds began to appear.  When we arrived at Lake Louise it was actually drizzling a bit, but the views were still breathtaking.  The Lake is fairly small, however there is  a Fairmont Hotel on it's banks which makes it even more scenic.  We took a number of pictures here and then back  on the bus.

As we were driving out of the parking lot from Lake Louise we spotted what we thought was a moose, however it was one of our tour guides wearing a moose hat hiding in the woods! :)  False alarm.  Our next stop was only a few minutes away at Moraine Lake.  As luck would have it we actually caught a few snow showers on our way, but by the time we were getting off the bus the sun was shining.  We were able to either hike or canoe at Lake Moraine before lunch.  We decided to hike as we planned on taking many pictures.  We did take lots of pictures here as the color of the water was spectacular and the mountains surrounding the lake were beautiful.  The lake is actually located in the valley of the 10 Peaks.  Yes - 10 Mountain peaks surround this lake.  Lunch with the entire group was at noon.  After a quick lunch we took another short hike to an overlook of the lake.  From this viewpoint you could really see the colors of the lake and the mountains in the distance.  Well we were off again.  Time to return to the hotel for some free time before the farewell dinner.

We were lucky enough to have our bus driver Tim drive us to the rental car agency once we returned.  We picked up our car that we would use for the next three days.  After getting situated in the car, we returned to the hotel.  Our plan was to leave by 7 a.m. Saturday to avoid the issues with the Triathalon.  After dropping off the car at the hotel it was time for some shopping.  We picked up a few trinkets for us and then some food and a cooler for our upcoming road trip.

We made it back to the hotel in time to do some packing and change for the farewell dinner.  The farewell dinner is often bitter sweet.  We are saying good bye to some new friends, but remembering the memories we shared together.  The dinner was great and at the end of the meal  we had a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police join us.  He had some interesting stories to tell us about life in the RCMP and then at the end he allowed us to take pictures with him.  He was quite a character.  The final activity was watching the slide show Adventures By Disney put together from our trip, what a perfect ending.

Off to bed as tomorrow was going to be a very early morning.
