Hi everyone,

as I havent been on any trips lately, I decided it was about time to see something else and get away for a few days. I hadnt seen my dear friend Mona in a while and therefore made plans with her to visit for a weekend. As she lives in Berlin I could combine seeing her with discovering more about the city because there is just soooo much to see and to do in Berlin. I have been there about 5 times now and I always really liked it. It has a very nice athmosphere and the people are friendly.
So last Friday I took the train from Den Haag to Berlin. I was supposed to travel 7 hours but because there have been train strikes in Germany, the train I had booked didnt go further than the border and from there I had to switch 3 more times to get to Berlin, with a 1,5 hrs delay of course. I was quite annoyed because I wanted as much time as possible with my friend but there wasnt much I could do :( However, I had a travel companion from the border all the way to Berlin and we kinda talked non stop for like 7 hrs *haha*... that was exhausting, also because I was still struggling with a cold and once we arrived, my throat was sore and my voice was almost gone. But anyways, it was nice to talk and to learn about another culture ( he was Turkish). Mona picked me up from the station and my travel companion also met a friend there, so that we decided to get dinner together. We took the subway and ended up in a very nice restaurant that served delicious German food for a good price :) Afterwards Mona and me went to her place, we talked a bit and fell into bed.

Saturday morning Mona made a delicious breakfast, we chatted and then made a plan for the day. The weather wasnt so nice, it was grey and rainy and so we decided to visit the Holocaust Memorial and museum first. Having done that my friend told me about a shop where they sell a typical German chocolate called "Rittersport" and where we could design our own chocolate bar :) And off we went... mjam mjam...I came out with a lot of chocolate bars *hehe*
After we visited a huge bookshop and also there I couldnt resist ;) Once back home we agreed to not go out, also because I wasnt so well and so stayed in and watched some TV and a DVD.

Sunday, the sun was shining and we were feeling a lot better :) We walked to the "Charlottenburg" which is a castle close to where Mona lives, she also lives close to the river and therefore we had a lovely walk. After we took the bus to the Botanic Garden and also walked around there for a while. Nothing was growing outside yet but there were a lot of green houses with many tropical plants such as cactuses, palm trees etc.
In the afternoon we met a mutual friend (whom we met during our studies) and sat down for some delicious coffee and cake :) We chatted a lot and afterwards went to eat sushi together, which was also yummy :) In the evening we watched TV again and talked.

Monday morning it was time to get the train back to Holland. This time the trip was much better, I had a seat in the sun and I was sleeping and reading all the way.

I had a lovely time in Berlin and with Mona, of course. I hope to go back soon and also show Fernando around.

Here are some pictures for you.

Kisses,
Jo
